FAO Funds Radio Series to Promote Community Forest Management
18 April 2012: The UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) is funding public education and outreach to promote community involvement in forest management in the Caribbean. Activities funded include "Bush Melee," a radio magazine broadcast across the airwaves on St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Bush Melee includes lessons on environmental values such as the negative impact of slash and burning on the forest, the importance of a healthy environment, and of livelihoods. The miniseries was developed by the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI), Media Impact, and St Vincent and the Grenadines' civil society and forest stakeholders, during a workshop held in Kingston, St Vincent, in 2011.
