GLISPA Establishes Island Summit Working Group
22 May 2012: The Global Island Partnership (GLISPA) has established a Working Group to plan for the Island Summit, to be held during the 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The Working Group is open to individuals, organizations and countries able to commit in-kind or financial resources to support the preparations and coordination of the Island Summit.
The Island Summit will recognize leadership - by island countries as well as countries with islands - in taking early action on the programme of work on island biodiversity (PoWIB), and in coordinating efforts across various players to contribute to the Aichi targets.
After the proposed Island Summit was welcomed by 16th meeting of the CBD's Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 16), the Working Group was established during an Island Summit Planning Meeting, held on 3 May 2012. COP 11 is scheduled for October 2012, in Hyderabad, India. [GLISPA Website] [Publication: Event Spotlight]
