SPREP Announces Winners of 2011 Vision Pasifika Media Award
29 May 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has announced the winners of the 2011 Vision Pasifika Media Awards, which focused on the theme “Dugongs and Sea Grasses: Respect and Protect.”
Four Pacific journalists were recognized with 2011 Vision Pasifika Media Awards for entries raising environmental awareness about protecting marine species, including: Moffat Mamu, for “Let's preserve our dugongs;” Nigel Sandy, for “The unknown sea cow;” Julian Maka'a, for “Whale watching, is it a potential in Solomon Islands?”; and Parijata Gurdayal, for “Calls to protect mangroves.”
The 2011 award is a partnership between SPREP and the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries Multilateral Environment Agreements (ACP MEAs) Project, which is funded by the EU and implemented by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
SPREP recently announced the 2012 Vision Pasifika Media Award under the theme “Clean Pacific,” with entries closing on 5 November 2012. [SPREP Press Release] [2012 Vision Pasifika Media Award Submission Guidelines]
