UNDOALOS Calls for Experts to Participate in the Regular Process

1 March 2012: The UN Division of Ocean Affairs and Law of the Sea (DOALOS) has issued a call for experts to participate in the UN Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socio-economic Aspects (the Regular Process).

A Group of 25 Experts of the Regular Process has been set up to carry out the assessments within the framework of the Regular Process. Its members were appointed through the five regional groups of the UN. In addition, a pool of between 1500 and 2000 experts will need to be established to assist the Group of Experts in conducting the assessments and to provide effective peer-review. These experts will be appointed by UN Member States through the regional groups, in adherence to the principle of equitable geographical representation and with due regard to a desirable gender balance. The regional groups have been requested to initiate consultations with Member States with a view to finalizing the appointment process for the pool of experts and communicating all the appointments to DOALOS by 16 March 2012. [The Call for Experts] [Regular Process Webpage]
